So, you’ve graduated from a college diploma program or a university degree, and you’re not sure what your next step might be. Maybe you’ve been in a career for a while and you want to specialize to reach the next level, or you’re looking for a complete career change.

A graduate certificate program might be the perfect choice for you.

These programs are developed to deepen your knowledge and build on skills you’ve already gained in previous studies. You earn a graduate-level credential to add to your resume and position yourself as a highly skilled, in-demand employee.

Reasons to take a graduate certificate program

  1. NSCC programs are directly linked to industry.
    • Our programs are developed in partnership with industry and reflect labour market demand.
    • You learn from faculty who are leading experts in their fields with strong connections to employers and industry.
    • When you complete your program, you are ready for hire and prepared with the knowledge and skills employers and industry want.
  2. Most graduate certificate programs include a work term. You get practical work experience and the opportunity to network and build connections while you’re still a student.
  3. A shorter timeframe means you graduate sooner, and you’ll be ready for work sooner. Graduate certificate programs are typically 15 weeks to 1 year in length.

A graduate’s experience

Keith Cusson is an alum of the 1-year Geographic Information Systems (GIS) - Remote Sensing graduate certificate program. After a 21-year career in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Keith decided to follow his passion for technology and explore a new path at NSCC.

“I'm really glad that I chose NSCC because I learned a lot of interesting things about technology that I didn't know existed until I came here,” he says. “It was a really friendly environment, but also serious and professional at the same time. It was a great experience and exposed me to the world of remote sensing,”

Following his graduation from NSCC in 2022, Keith completed a Master of Science in Applied Geomatics, a joint offering between NSCC and Acadia University allowing students to benefit from the strengths of both schools, and is now employed by Niricson, where he uses drones and remote sensing to investigate building structures.
