Innovation Sprints

These fast-paced, 4-hour events bring together students, alumni and local businesses to solve real-world challenges through design thinking, teamwork and creativity.

Hosted in partnership with Saint Mary’s University (SMU), each Sprint features a business owned or operated by an NSCC or SMU alum who presents a challenge they’re facing. Student teams brainstorm, develop and pitch solutions for a chance to win cash prizes of $1,000, $700 and $300.

Whether you’re curious about entrepreneurship or eager to test your skills, Innovation Sprints offer a unique, hands-on experience.

Eligibility

  • Students
    • Current NSCC students from any campus or program
    • Students from other universities and colleges in Atlantic Canada welcome
    • Interested in entrepreneurship, innovation, business, problem-solving or experiential learning
  • Alumni/businesses
    • NSCC or SMU alumni who own or operate a business
    • Willing to present a real challenge to student teams

Program details

Each Sprint includes:

  • A real-world business challenge presented by a local NSCC or SMU alum
  • Collaborative teamwork to develop innovative solutions
  • Design thinking tools to guide the process
  • Pitch presentations to a panel of judges
  • Cash prizes for the top three teams: $1,000, $700 and $300
