Student wellbeing
Personal wellbeing is a key contributor to your success at the College and we want you to take advantage of all the services here to support your journey. We offer a supportive learning environment with a range of student mental wellness services and resources to help you care for your overall wellbeing, including:
- Personal and career counselling, including culturally-responsive counselling for Mi'kmaw and L'nu Indigenous and/or Black and African Nova Scotian students.
- Campus and Student Association mental wellness activities and events throughout the year to promote mental health awareness and boost wellbeing.
- Facilities like fitness and recreation centres, and cafeterias with a range of dietary options.
- Access to 24/7 free online support through healthymindsns.ca.
- Referrals to community agencies.
- Access to mywellness (for those in the health plan) with free, virtual counselling.
Professional counselling
NSCC students have access to free, confidential professional counselling (including culturally-responsive counselling for L'nu Indigenous and/or Black and African Nova Scotian students).
Our counsellors offer one-on-one, individual sessions aimed at empowering students to navigate their academic, career and personal concerns and learning new strategies to succeed. Counselling may include some of the following:
- Short-term counselling support helping you explore and identify your interests, strengths, and values along with creating an individualized plan for next steps for your journey at the college, in your personal life and in your career.
- Counselling around addressing concerns such as emotional regulation, anxiety, depression, substance use, or relationship issues. Counsellors will work with you to work through concerns brought forward.
- Integrating new strategies and tools to help you manage anxiety, stress and difficult situations during your college experience, These new skills can be used in the workplace and in relationships with friends and family. Counsellors can also offer referrals to community counselling or wellness services for continued skill-building and support.
- Referrals to internal and external resources linking you with appropriate on-campus services and community organizations to ensure access to ongoing, comprehensive supports for your wellbeing.

Online and community wellness resources
- HealthyMindsNS - A suite of free online mental health services, including:
- Good2Talk - Free, confidential support services for post-secondary students, available 24/7. Access professional counselling, volunteer crisis support, and information and referrals about mental health services and supports. Call 1-833-292-3698 or text GOOD2TALKNS to 686868.
- Togetherall - A safe and anonymous, online peer community for your mental health, available 24/7 to all young adults and post-secondary students in Nova Scotia.
- Tranquility - An online cognitive behavioural therapy program that includes online modules, interactive tools and 1-on-1 virtual coaching through text messaging and/or weekly video and phone sessions.
- Be There - Offers resources to help you learn how to support someone struggling with their mental health.
- Sexual violence support – Understand what sexual violence is, get support and know how to respond to someone who has been impacted.
- Nova Scotia 211 - Find a community or social service in your area.
- Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program (SANE) - Access help if you've experienced sexual violence.
- Nurse Telecare - Call 811 for health information and advice.

Emergency supports
There are emergency supports available including:
- Call 911 for emergency situations 24/7.
- Call or text 988, the national Suicide Crisis Helpline.
- Call the Provincial Mental Health Crisis Line: 902-429-8167 or 1-888-429-8167 (toll-free) for mental health support and/or go to the nearest hospital.
