Sustainability

Sustainability is part of everything we do. It’s a key organizational value and embedded into our strategic priorities. It encompasses how we design, construct and operate our buildings; how we manage resources; and how we provide a safe, healthy, equitable environment in which to work and learn.
Through our work with Colleges and Institutes Canada, and as one of the first signatories in Canada on the global SDG Accord, we're committed to incorporating sustainability into:
- Our teaching and learning
- Applied research projects
- Day-to-day campus operations and administrative approach
- Student life and community engagement activities
Advancing sustainable development goals
In support of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, we’re dedicated to advancing the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs), which aim to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all global citizens. Learn more about the SDGs (link to United Nations YouTube channel).
Award-winning commitments
In addition to our green buildings and sustainable construction, we’re working to address climate change through:
- Reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions
- Adapting to our changing climate
- Education on climate change
- Reducing water use
- Reducing waste streams
We’re currently the highest-scoring college in Canada via the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System and the overall top performing associate college on the Sustainable Campus Index. Learn more about our sustainability awards and recognition.
