Defence workforce development

Canada's defence, marine and aerospace sectors depend on a skilled workforce to support shipbuilding, sustainment, advanced manufacturing, digital technologies and other critical industries.

As investment and procurement activity continue to grow, employers need access to new talent and opportunities to develop existing workers. NSCC works with employers, industry and government partners to help build that workforce through marine and trades pathways, customized training and applied learning.

Meeting defence workforce demands

Strong talent pipelines are critical to supporting defence-related industries today and in the future. NSCC helps employers:

  • Recruit and develop skilled talent
  • Upskill and reskill workers as needs evolve
  • Build capacity in trades and technical occupations
  • Create pathways into high-demand careers

As Nova Scotia's province-wide community college, NSCC is uniquely positioned to support these goals through practical, industry-informed learning.

Marine and trades pathways

Nova Scotia's shipbuilding and marine sectors require a steady pipeline of skilled workers. NSCC prepares learners for careers in trades and technical occupations that support Canada's defence and marine industries.

Through hands-on learning and strong industry partnerships, students develop skills that translate directly to the workplace. Initiatives such as Women Unlimited and the Irving Shipbuilding Marine Trades Initiative help expand access to training and create pathways into high-demand careers.
