Math at Work 12 upgrading options

If you're applying to a skilled trades or other program that recommends Math at Work 12 and don't have the course or an accepted equivalent, there are several options available to strengthen your math skills so that you can be successful in your program.

These options have been collaboratively designed by NSCC and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD).

Upgrading options

Math upgrading through EECD

Launching in early 2027, you can upgrade your Math Essentials through the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD). More information will be shared soon.

NSCC upgrading courses

Explore upgrading courses that can help you meet your Math at Work 12 admission recommendation/requirement. 

Continuing education 

You can register to take the following course as a continuing education student: 

  • Math Foundations – MATH 1043 (Offered at no cost for 2026-27) 

There are 3 continuing education terms offered each year (fall, winter, and spring/summer). Winter continuing education course offerings will be published on October 13, 2026, and registration will open on November 30, 2026. Learn more about registering through Continuing Education. 

Adult Learning Program (ALP) 

If you are a mature student who meets the admission requirement for the Adult Learning Program – Academic Upgrading program you can complete the Math at Work 12 recommendation/requirement through this program by taking the following course:

  • Mathematics IV – MATH 1025 

NSCC student math support

Current students have access to the Math Hub, which provides tips, resources, and available internal and external services to help with math for trades, business and engineering programs. The Math Hub also provides an online math self-assessment to help students identify areas needing improvement.

Students can also explore the range of tutoring services we have to support their learning, including:

  • Peer Assisted Learning Program – offering facilitated study groups and one-on-one sessions for general and program specific topics.
  • Nimbus Tutoring - provides NSCC students with up to 4 hours of free, virtual, one-on-one tutoring each month.
