NSCC collective bargaining: view updates

Study while you work to advance your career in behavioural interventions

A woman and two children sit at a table. One child, a girl, plays independently while the woman and a boy look at a tablet.

In Nova Scotia, there’s an increasing demand for graduates skilled in applying behavioural strategies that support learning. To meet this demand, Annapolis Valley Campus (Middleton) is now offering the Behavioural Interventions program with a reduced course load.

While you work, you can study:

  • how to assess, design, implement, modify and evaluate positive behavioural interventions for children and adults of all ages and abilities.
  • positive behavioural strategies that facilitate growth within social, emotional, cognitive and mental health function for different diagnoses
  • appropriate assessment protocols that identify goals and support the individual in the development of new skills
  • how to use data collection to document, analyze and evaluate program progress
  • designing modifications for specialized populations, including trauma-informed care, dementia care and traumatic brain injury
  • applying skills and support with an acceptance of neurodiversity, inclusion of the individual in goal and support planning and implementation
  • applying positive behavioural supports in a three-tiered model from universal Tier 1 to individualized Tier 3 interventions

Why apply to NSCC?

  • One of the best ways to advance your career is to complete an industry-specific specialization like Behavioural Interventions
  • Delivered online and in-person, you study with a reduced course load.
    • Instead of completing the program in 12 months, you study approximately 20 hours/week and graduate in 16 months.
  • Classes begin January 2021 to December 2021, then begin again in January 2022 to April 2022.
  • Earn credit for previous courses, employment or training you’ve already completed through Recognized Prior Learning (RPL)
  • Get free access to many supports and services, such as advising and counselling.

In just 16 months, you can complete the Behavioural Interventions courses you need to advance or kickstart your career. Our in-demand graduates are qualified to work as part of an interdisciplinary team to assess, intervene and/or train others in the application of behavioural strategies in schools, group homes, outpatient programs and more.

NSCC's Admissions team is currently accepting applications for January 2021. To reserve a spot in our Middleton Behavioural Interventions program, apply today
