Souls Harbour Rescue Mission is a non-profit organization serving communities across Nova Scotia by providing food, shelter, and life-changing programs to those in need. We are seeking volunteers for a variety of roles at both our Mission Mart thrift store and our Drop-In Centres.
At Mission Mart in Halifax, our social enterprise, volunteers can help with receiving and sorting donations, organizing merchandise, and serving as floor clerks or cashiers.
At our Drop-In Centres, volunteers assist in preparing and serving daily meals, supporting guests in our Free Marts (where essentials are available at no cost), and helping with general organization and cleaning. Our Drop-Centres are located across the province, including Lower Sackville, Halifax, Truro, Bridgewater, Yarmouth, Sydney Mines, New Waterford, and more.
While volunteering with us, students/graduates can build valuable skills such as interpersonal communication, cultural sensitivity, empathy, and a deeper sense of community awareness—skills that are highly transferable to a wide range of future career paths. It’s also a great opportunity for career exploration and networking with our diverse group of volunteers. We carefully track volunteer hours and are happy to provide confirmation letters for academic credit, co-curricular records, scholarships, or other official requirements.
Please note volunteers working as cashiers, handling jewelry at Mission Mart, or regularly volunteering at our Drop-In Centres will be asked to complete a criminal record check, at no cost to you.
No specific experience or qualifications are required - just a willingness to help and a heart for supporting others. We’re looking for dependable, respectful individuals who are passionate about making a difference in their community. Whether you enjoy working with people, organizing donations, or supporting behind the scenes, there’s a place for you at Souls Harbour. All volunteers must be open to working in a diverse environment and committed to upholding the values of dignity, compassion, and service. Training and support will be provided as needed.
