Job Description: Harness Assembly Technician

Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Production Lead

Purpose Of The Role:

The Harness Assembly Technician is responsible for the assembly, inspection, testing, and documentation of electronic, cable, and wire harness assemblies in accordance with engineering specifications, IPC/WHMA-A-620, Mil-Aero Quality Standards, and production schedules. This role requires strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to accurately follow and develop assembly documentation in a regulated manufacturing environment.

Key Accountabilities:

1. Assembly and Production

• Assemble electronic, electromechanical, cable, and wire harness assemblies according to assembly drawings, schematics, work instructions, process instructions, and Manufacturing Control Travelers (MCT).
• Perform wire and cable preparation including cutting, stripping, crimping, soldering, routing, lacing, shielding, and termination of connectors and contacts.
• Build cable and harness assemblies to IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards and Mil-Aero Quality Standards.
• Identify and install electronic components, connectors, wires, and hardware accurately.
• Working accordance with ESD, safety, and quality requirements at all times.

2. Documentation and Process Support

• Interpret and follow assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, and process instructions.
• Assist in the creation or improvement of assembly drawings and process documentation with engineering and production leads.
• Complete production and quality documentation accurately and on time.

3. Inspection and Testing

• Perform in-process and final inspections of electronic and cable/harness assemblies to ensure compliance with drawings and quality standards.
• Conduct basic electrical tests such as continuity, insulation resistance, and functional checks.
• Identify, document, and report non-conformances or defects.

4. Troubleshooting and Rework

• Support troubleshooting of assembly, cable, and harness-related issues.
• Perform authorized rework and repairs while maintaining workmanship standards.
• Provide feedback on recurring issues and opportunities for process improvement.

5. Equipment and Tools

• Properly use and maintain hand tools, crimp tools, soldering equipment, harness boards, fixtures, and test equipment.
• Report damaged tools, calibration issues, or equipment malfunctions.

6. Collaboration

• Work closely with production, engineering, quality, and test teams to support manufacturability, quality, and on-time delivery.
• Participate in team meetings, continuous improvement initiatives, and quality discussions.

7. Compliance and Safety

• Follow IPC/WHMA-A-620, Mil-Aero Quality Standards, internal procedures, and safety regulations.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Support audits, inspections, and customer reviews as required.

8. Other Duties

• Perform additional technical or administrative duties as assigned based on operational needs.

• Internal: Production Lead, Engineering Team, Quality and Process Team, Test Team.

Qualifications

Education

• Diploma or certificate in Electronics Technology, Electrical Technology, or equivalent practical experience.

Experience

• Experience in electronics, cable, or wire harness assembly preferred, particularly in aerospace, defense, or regulated manufacturing environments.

Technical Skills

• Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and process instructions.
• Experience with cable and harness assembly techniques including crimping, soldering, and connector termination.
• Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards (certification considered an asset).
• Basic computer skills for documentation and production systems.
