About the Job

In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, within the context of client-centered care, and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, policies, procedures, this position works in a team based environment and under general supervision of the Operations Supervisor, Professional Practice Leader or other designated personnel performs a variety of routine and/or complex tests utilizing manual procedures and automated instruments within the laboratory.

Position is also responsible for functions such as greeting patients, collecting and/or receiving specimens, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and related computer systems/programs, validating and reporting test results, maintaining instruments and preparing solutions and control agents in accordance with established procedures and safety standards. Participates in departmental training programs in individual or all sections of the lab (such as, microbiology, histology, cytology, etc.) with a view to learning new/existing tests and procedures for use in the Laboratory.

Field of practice for this position is: Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine (Science)

This is a Permanent Full Time (1.0) position. Shifts of work will be scheduled rotating days, evenings and nights.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved Medical Laboratory Science Program
  • Successful completion of recognized competency assessment exam and registration in the relevant field(s) of practice in accordance with the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) pathways, or certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • One (1) year recent related experience.
