The Independent Living Support Staff (ILS) worker position is responsible for providing care to individuals who require support in their home and community. The intent of the ILS program is to promote independence, self reliance, security, and social inclusion. This is achieved by using a person-directed and collaborative approach to create a flexible and responsive support system.
Responsibilities:
-Assist participants to maintain and build healthy relationships and connections with family, friends, and community members and resources.
-Assist participants to maximize independence in instruments of daily living such as maintaining a household, laundry, shopping/ banking, preparing meals, transportation to access community resources and participating in leisure activities, day programs, or work activities.
-Assist with promotion and maintenance of personal care routines, health and wellness.
-Transporting clients to and from activities of daily living
-Recognize the potential of individuals and facilitate opportunities for continuing growth and personal development.
-Obtain information and prepare reports and necessary documentation.
-Provide suicide and crisis intervention
-Conflict resolutions skills
-Post secondary or College certificate in a related field would be considered an asset
-Experience with supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities and Mental Health illness
-Must be able to provide a Criminal and Vulnerable sector check
-Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel to multiple locations
-Must have the appropriate Insurance Coverage to transport Individuals
-Provide a Driver’s Abstract
-Must have or be willing to obtain certification for the following 7 core competencies:
