RBC Foundation invests in wind energy education at NSCC
Oct. 30, 2025 – Media Release
Kentville, NS -- Yesterday, NSCC Foundation and RBC Foundation celebrated a transformative contribution supporting wind energy education at Nova Scotia Community College’s (NSCC) Kingstec Campus. The funding will enhance the Electrical Technician – Wind Energy program, preparing students for careers in Nova Scotia's rapidly growing renewable energy sector as part of a $2 million commitment to five Atlantic region community colleges from the RBC Foundation.
The enhanced Electrical Technician – Wind Energy program will prepare graduates to meet the growing demand for technicians skilled in large-scale wind technology. The funding comes at a critical time, as the province has committed to increasing onshore wind generation from 20% to 50% or more of total electricity generated by 2030, creating urgent demand for skilled wind energy technicians.
"RBC Foundation’s contribution is transformational for environmentally sustainable skills training at NSCC. Their support is ensuring NSCC students are at the forefront of renewable energy technology, allowing us to enhance the program's curriculum for wind energy education through the development of courses and providing hands-on training materials with new technology," said Don Bureaux, President, NSCC. "With Nova Scotia's commitment to expanding wind energy, our graduates will play a crucial role in the province's low-carbon energy future thanks to RBC Foundation’s support."
"The climate transition is driving rapid change, and it's crucial that our workforce in Atlantic Canada and across the country is equipped to keep pace," said Chris Ronald, Regional President, Atlantic Provinces, RBC. "That’s why RBC Foundation is proud to support Nova Scotia Community College’s wind energy electrical technician program, helping to equip students with the skills needed for a thriving future."
The funding addresses a significant workforce challenge. According to RBC Economics and Thought Leadership's "Green Collar Jobs" report, 3.1 million Canadian jobs will change in some way over the next decade due to the climate transition. By investing in green skills training, RBC Foundation is helping build the talent pool needed for Canada's journey to net-zero.
