About the Position

Role Overview:

The Yard Associate is responsible for maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the company’s yard and warehouse facilities. Other responsibilities include loading and unloading company delivery vehicles and customer vehicles, and maintaining the inventory in the yard. The Yard Associate reports directly to the Yard Foreman and is accountable for their duties and responsibilities within the yard.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the yard and warehouse facilities.
  • Operate a variety of equipment and tools, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks once training and certification has been achieved.
  • Assist with loading and unloading cargo as needed.
  • Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and in good working condition.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures related to safety, maintenance, and operation of equipment and tools.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Yard Supervisor.
  • Looking after contractors and other customers, finding products, loading/unloading vehicles.
  • Ensure all products leaving the yard have been invoiced or purchased.
  • Attend Health and Safety Committee meetings and training if requested by store Management and Committees.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of all products stocked in the yard and warehouse.
  • Use proper material handling techniques to ensure minimal damage to yard inventory.
  • Be familiar with the grades, dimensions, and species of lumber stocked in the yard and warehouse.
  • Assume other duties as assigned by the Yard Foreman or Store Manager.

Qualifications


  • Proven experience in warehouse operations and management
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and load/unload materials efficiently
  • Proficient in order picking and using warehouse distribution equipment
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems and the operation of forklifts and cranes
  • Familiarity with shipping and receiving processes
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Physical Requirements

  • Able to stand for long periods.
  • Work in all weather conditions
  • Lift up to 50lbs
