You don't need to know yet whether you’re an electrical person, a mechanical person or a machinist – you need somewhere that takes your curiosity about how things work and helps you turn it into a career. Across these pre-apprenticeship programs, most a year or 2, you develop skills and confidence by doing - wiring control panels, machining precision parts, welding steel and keeping industrial equipment running.

Find an industrial / manufacturing program that fits your interests

You enjoy understanding how machines and systems work and using technology, tools and technical skills to build, repair or improve them. You value precision, practical problem-solving and visible results - though you may still be deciding between electrical, mechanical, machining, fabrication or a welding career.

Cabinetmaking and Woodworking Techniques
Learn how to identify and select wood products, interpret drawings, operate woodworking machines and practise the art of cabinetry and woodworking.

CNC Machining
Deepen your precision machining skills by programming and operating computer numerical controlled machines to manufacture mechanical parts that keep industries running.

Electrical – Industrial Maintenance and Controls
Build on your foundational electrical skills and take the next steps in your training as you learn about electrical motors, controls, transformers, solid-state systems and automation technology.

Electrical Technician
Learn the principles of design, installation and safe operation of renewable electrical energy and automated control systems.

Industrial Mechanical
Gain expertise in installing, maintaining and repairing industrial machinery and equipment.

Instrumentation Technician
Learn the skills to operate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair process control systems.

Metal Fabrication
Learn how to interpret blueprints and develop layout patterns to build and assemble structures from raw materials using metalworking machinery, welding and cutting techniques.

Power Engineering Technology
Prepare to operate and maintain industrial and building energy systems safely and efficiently.

Precision Machining
Develop skills to interpret engineered drawings and use precise measurements and hand tools to manufacture custom parts and perform repairs with conventional lathes and milling machines to meet tight tolerances.

Welding
Learn how to interpret blueprints to join metal, repair parts and structures, fabricate components and apply safe working practices using various welding and cutting equipment and techniques.

Why NSCC?

  • A preferred provider with apprenticeship credit built in. NSCC is a preferred provider for trades training in Nova Scotia, and graduates who register as apprentices with the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency may be eligible for credit toward their apprenticeship.
