Course overview

In this course students will learn the principles of shipboard safety and emergency response according to Transport Canada Guidelines. Investigating and reporting on incidents, controlling crew and passengers, organizing search and rescue operations and communicating with crew will also be discussed and practiced. To participate in this course you must be 16 years of age or older and have a training certificate in STCW Basic Safety or equivalent. All students registering for Marine Emergency Duties (MED) training must complete the Fatigue Management at Sea e-course, as required by Transport Canada. The course is free for Canadian seafarers who have a valid Canadian Document Number (CDN). Proof of course completion must be submitted to NSCC before a MED certificate can be issued. The course can be accessed on the CCOHS website https://www.ccohs.ca/distributors/transport-canada.
