This course is designed for individuals working in or entering the construction trades who want to strengthen their understanding of sustainable building practices and support Canada’s transition to a clean economy.

It is well suited for those seeking upskilling or reskilling opportunities in response to climate‑driven changes within the construction sector.

What you’ll learn about climate‑smart construction

Through real‑world examples, you’ll explore how to apply climate‑conscious decision‑making across construction projects, from purchasing through installation. Key topics include:

  • Carbon emissions and their impact on construction projects
  • Energy efficiency in new builds and retrofits
  • Lifecycle carbon and material selection

You’ll gain practical insights to help reduce environmental impacts while supporting more sustainable construction outcomes.

  • Location: Online, synchronous (live instruction)

Admission requirements

This course is open to individuals who:

  • Are legally entitled to work in Canada under applicable provincial and federal regulations
  • Are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or have been granted refugee status in Canada
  • Are 18 years of age or older
  • Are seeking upskilling or reskilling opportunities to prepare for sectoral shifts toward more sustainable practices
