NSCC students to compete in annual Challenge Nova Scotia event

Nov. 12, 2025 – Media Release

Halifax, N.S. - On Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) students will take part in the eleventh annual Challenge Nova Scotia competition, a province-wide event that invites students from all NSCC campuses to develop innovative solutions to a social challenge facing Nova Scotia.

Premier Tim Houston and NSCC President Don Bureaux will launch the eight-hour event by revealing this year’s secret challenge question. Working in teams of three to five, students will then develop their solutions and create an infographic outlining their solution.

“The NSCC Challenge Nova Scotia event is showcasing the incredible talent training at our Community College,” said Premier Houston. “I’m incredibly proud of these students, who will find solutions to our province’s challenges and drive our economy forward.”

In the days following the event, a panel of judges, made up of the College's industry and community partners will review the submissions. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams and their solutions will be shared with Premier Houston.

“Challenge Nova Scotia showcases the leadership, collaboration and problem-solving abilities of our students,” said NSCC President Don Bureaux. “I’m always inspired by the thoughtful solutions student teams produce and their commitment to addressing a timely issue facing our province.”

Event: Challenge Nova Scotia
Date: Friday, November 14, 2025 (8:30 am to 5 pm)

About Nova Scotia Community College
NSCC is located in Mi’kma’ki, the unceded territory and traditional homeland of the Mi’kmaq Nation. This land is governed by the treaties of Peace and Friendship, which the Mi’kmaq and the British Crown first signed in 1726. The College is committed to building Nova Scotia's economy and quality of life through education and innovation, transforming Nova Scotia one learner at a time. NSCC offers more than 130 career-oriented programs throughout the province at our 14 campuses, including our online eCampus.
