Overview
The Mechanized Forest Equipment Operator program is designed to prepare you for entry-level positions in forest operations. You’ll learn the technical and safety skills needed to operate specialized harvesting machinery. Graduates of this program are well-positioned for immediate employment in the forest sector.
Delivered in partnership with New Brunswick Community College (NBCC), this 13-week program combines classroom learning, hands-on simulator training and field experience. You gain a comprehensive foundation in modern forest operations, learn how to navigate environmental regulations, follow safety protocols and operate harvester controls with precision.

- How to operate forest equipment with a focus on safety and sustainability.
- Sector best practices, including tree identification, forest management and regulatory compliance.
- How to assess worksites and evaluate tree utilization and wood product quality.
- Daily preventive maintenance techniques and how to make basic equipment repairs.
- The fundamentals of forest computer systems, simulators and field communication protocols.
- First aid, WHMIS and workplace safety legislation.
Program information
- Delivery: In person, 4 weeks of classroom and simulator instruction, followed by 9 weeks of field-based harvester training.
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Tuition: $8,000
- Credential: NBCC Certificate and Transcript of Marks
Eligibility
Applicants must have one of the following:
- High School Diploma
- GED Diploma of High School Equivalency
- Essential Skills Achievement Pathway: Post-Secondary Entry High School
- Or qualify as a mature student (21+ and demonstrates readiness through skills and experience)

You may be eligible for funding through Canada Student Loans and Nova Scotia Student Assistance. The 2 applications can be completed together.
