Learn what’s involved in operating a greenhouse – from the structures and functions of all parts and areas of a greenhouse, to how greenhouses help address the unique needs and priorities of local food security and reclamation initiatives.

The Greenhouse Practices and Operational Fundamentals microcredential is made up of 3 courses delivered through a combination of online and in-person learning.

Course 1: Greenhouse Theory

Understand different greenhouse types, their structural components and their functions.

  • January 5 to 18, 2026
  • 15 hours
  • Asynchronous online – study online at your own pace over 2 weeks

Course 2: Plant Propagation

Get hands-on experience in a local greenhouse practising plant care, propagation and workplace safety.

  • January 19 to February 8, 2026
  • 30 hours
  • In person – learn at Kingstec Campus’s greenhouse over 2 weekends

Course 3: Greenhouse Operations

Learn to evaluate greenhouse operations and make informed logistical decisions.

  • February 9 to 23, 2026
  • 15 hours
  • Asynchronous online – study online at your own pace over 2 weeks

Admission requirements

Before registering, please make sure you meet the following criteria. If you’re unsure, contact .

  • Completion of grade 10
  • At least 3 years of work or volunteer experience in any sector, which can be non-consecutive and complete in Canada or abroad
  • Physically able to stand for at least 3 hours and lift up to 15 kg / 33 lbs
