- Purpose
The purpose of this safety procedure is to ensure the safety, security, and well being of students and faculty that may have occasion to be on campus after hours of normal operations. This procedure is also intended to minimize risks to the physical security of NSCC assets by preventing theft, vandalism, or other inappropriate behavior or activity as a result of activity after campus normal operational hours.
- Scope
This procedure applies to all NSCC Campus and satellite facilities, all Faculty, Staff, Students, visitors, and Contractors.

Procedure:
- NSCC recognizes the importance of an open and accessible learning environment. In order to allow access to campuses after hours, appropriate safety and security requirements must be maintained to protect people and assets.
- After Hours defined: 22:00 hrs or until 06:00
Standard of safety:
- All regulatory safety standards, regulations, codes of practice, or NSCC safety or security directives are met.
Standard of security:
- Reasonable measures are taken; regulatory requirements are fulfilled that are necessary to offer a secure environment for occupants.
- To minimize risk to NSCC property through taking reasonable measures that include security through design, physical security devices are used, electronic surveillance and access control systems are provided where necessary, maintain adequate lighting, provide accessible communication, method to ensure accountability of occupants.
Procedure:
- Under most circumstances NSCC academic programs shall not operate latter than 22:00 hrs. (10 pm).
- At 22:00 buildings will be secured with access restricted to monitored locations only. Monitoring includes electronic key swipe type, or a staffed security station.
- If occupants remain after 22:00, they must provide advance notice to Facilities Management, check-in with staffed security posts, or log their presence by swiping their card at the appropriate reader.
- Only in rare circumstances shall a person be permitted to be alone on campus. This is limited to emergencies, or activities with prior approval. The NSCC working alone procedure shall be implemented.
