Small class sizes mean big results

Two students work with wood in a shop-like classroom environment.

At NSCC, we’re known for having low student-teacher ratios, with a typical class size of 20-30 students. In smaller classes, instructors get the time to know their students, which means they’re better able to identify the strengths, challenges, and learning styles of the class.

“My time at NSCC was absolutely amazing. When I walked onto the campus, it felt like home with hands-on learning, and lots of one-on-one time.” says Russel Borden, Social Services grad. In addition to that extra one-on-one time, Russel also got to build stronger friendships and bonds with his fellow classmates.

Whether it’s through group projects, study sessions or classwork, students get the chance to know one another. "I didn't like the idea of starting out in a big lecture hall filled with people who didn’t know my name. Classes at NSCC are small and you get to know your classmates and instructors well, which creates the perfect environment for deeper learning." shares Lorenzo Gallardo, a Business Administration grad.

With that, it’s no surprise that smaller class sizes mean higher academic achievement. NSCC’s positive and supportive learning environment allows students to participate, ask questions and share opinions and perspectives openly.
