Scotiabank commits $210,000 to support and inspire NSCC student and alumni entrepreneurs

Apr. 14, 2023 – Media Release

Halifax, NS -- Today at NSCC’s Akerley Campus, Scotiabank announced its $210,000 commitment to extend the Scotiabank Entrepreneur-in-the-Making Program at NSCC over the next three years to support students and recent alumni at the College who are looking to start or grow their business.

Through ScotiaRISE, Scotiabank’s 10-year, $500 million commitment to strengthen economic resilience among disadvantaged groups, the new funding will provide support to growing the program across the province, offering recipients at each of the College’s 14 campuses with one grant of up to $3,000, three business advisory sessions, mentorship and access to networking opportunities. Additionally, the funding will support a new annual grant opportunity for past program participants at least one year out of the program who are continuing to grow and operate their original business idea.

“Traditional lending has not always been easily attainable to first-time business owners, particularly those in underrepresented communities, but we are making strides,” said Nicola Ray Smith, Scotiabank’s Senior Vice President, Atlantic Region. “Through our continued support of the Entrepreneur-in-the-Making Program, we are committed to empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs to better access the financial knowledge and funding they need to help accelerate their progress.”

“The College is honoured to receive this incredible support for NSCC student and alumni entrepreneurs. Scotiabank’s generous commitment through the Entrepreneur-in-the-Making Program will continue to inspire and motivate recipients by providing financial and educational opportunities to embrace their entrepreneurial spirit.” - Don Bureaux, President, NSCC
