Mi'kmaw and Indigenous supports advisors

Our Mi'kmaw and Indigenous supports advisors are a resource for future and current NSCC students of First Nation, Metis and Inuit descent. They can answer your questions and help you find the information, culturally-responsive supports and academic supports you need to succeed.

Your Mi'kmaw and Indigenous supports advisor can:

  • Offer career exploration
  • Help you with your NSCC application process
  • Connect you with funding opportunities, including emergency financial supports
  • Offer guidance around applying for NSCC awards, scholarships and bursaries available for Mi'kmaw and Indigenous students
  • Help you access culturally-responsive tutoring, counselling and other learning supports and student services
  • Connect you with other Mi'kmaw and Indigenous learners
  • Work with your campus community to offer Mi'kmaw and Indigenous perspectives and approaches
  • Host Mi'kmaw and Indigenous student gatherings and organize cultural events

Tutoring for Mi'kmaw and Indigenous students

NSCC students have access to tutoring at no cost, including culturally-responsive tutoring through the Indigenous Student Success Tutoring Program. This program is funded by Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey.

Counselling for Mi'kmaw and Indigenous students

Craig Besaw is an Indigenous Counsellor providing counselling services to students at Marconi Campus as well as to any NSCC student who identifies as Indigenous and is seeking culturally-responsive counselling services. Craig can be reached at

Awards for Mi'kmaw and Indigenous students

We offer more than $3 million in awards, scholarships and bursaries each year. Funded by donors, partners and sponsors through NSCC Foundation, awards are granted based on a range of criteria such as financial need, leadership, volunteer experience and career interests.
