About the Position

Position Summary:

Ummah Society /Maritime Muslim Academy is seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable Inclusion Coordinator to join our team and lead the development and implementation of inclusive programming for children with diverse needs. This role requires strong collaboration with educators, families, and specialists to ensure all children are supported and empowered to thrive in our early learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Inclusion Planning and Support:

  • Assess and identify developmental and learning needs of children requiring additional support.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individual Program Plans (IPPs) or support plans in partnership with families and educators.
  • Coordinate inclusion supports such as educational assistants and external specialists (e.g., SLPs, OTs).

2. Staff Training and Mentorship

  • Mentor educators on inclusive strategies and curriculum adaptations.
  • Facilitate or coordinate training sessions and workshops on inclusive practices and child development.
  • Model and promote trauma-informed care and positive behavior guidance

3. Family Engagement

  • Act as the primary contact for families of children with diverse needs.
  • Maintain regular communication with families about progress, concerns, and supports.
  • Connect families to relevant community resources and services.

4. Collaboration and Communication

  • Work in close partnership with the Director, Early Childhood Educators, and external consultants.
  • Lead or participate in case conferences, team meetings, and inclusion-related planning.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of support plans, progress, and communications.

5. Compliance and Program Quality

  • Ensure inclusive practices align with Nova Scotia Early Learning and Child Care Regulations.
  • Support the center’s compliance with licensing requirements for inclusion.
  • Participate in program evaluation and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education
  • Nova Scotia ECE Classification Level  2, or 3
  • Specialized training or experience in inclusive education, early intervention, or special needs
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Current certifications: CPR/First Aid, Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector), and Child Abuse Registry Check.
