About the Position

We're hiring an After School Program Assistant in a part-time role. You will assist in implementing the after school program, reporting to the Director and adheres to all the policies and procedures set out by the Gaspereau After School Program Society, the Nova Scotia Before and After Program, and the relevant provincial regulations.

  • Provide an inclusive and welcoming environment for all children
  • Provide a positive and fun experience for all children
  • Assist in carrying out a balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and individual/group activities
  • Assist children with social interactions and (when necessary) conflict resolution
  • Provide positive guidance such as redirection, positive language, and positive reinforcement
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information relating to the Program’s children, their families, and GASP staff.
  • Create and maintain positive working relationships with the staff of the Gaspereau Valley Elementary School
  • Health and Safety - Maintain a high degree of health and safety each day, following safety protocols, procedures, and best practices
  • Parent communication - Discuss the program’s daily events and the child’s progress with parents

Hours and location of work

  • Gaspereau Valley Elementary School
  • 2:00pm to 5:30pm - Monday to Friday
  • Excludes school holidays (winter break, March Break, summer)
  • Possible extra hours when Lead or Assistant Lead is absent - 1:30pm to 6:00pm
  • Job Types: Part-time, Permanent, Seasonal
  • Contract length: 10 months
  • Start date: September 2025
  • Pay: $16.00-$18.00 per hour
  • Expected hours: 17.5 per week

Qualifications

  • Child Abuse Registry
  • Vulnerable Sector Check
  • First Aid is an asset
  • Prior experience working with children
  • Must have reliable transportation
