Overview

If you self-identify as Black/African Nova Scotian, you have the option to earn your high school diploma from an Africentric perspective through Akerley Campus from anywhere in the province through virtual, online-synchronous, teacher-led learning.

In your first year of the program, you:

  • Discuss topics such as culture, ancestry, traditions and world view.
  • Learn about the knowledge and accomplishments of people of African ancestry and how they've influenced the world.
  • Develop your confidence and potential by gaining exposure to African Canadian educators and mentors.

When you complete compulsory courses in the Africentric Learning Option program, you transition into the ALP program to complete the additional credits you need to earn your high school diploma.

Choose NSCC

  • Our counsellors and instructors understand that, as an adult returning to school, you have unique needs. Because of this, you're assigned a faculty advisor who provides you with support throughout the program. Our ALP team helps you prepare, plan and pursue your learning to achieve your individual career and academic goals.
  • You study in a college environment, where people are engaged in learning skills in a variety of occupational areas. If you're thinking of going on to further studies, this may help you to decide on your future.
