Title: Carlton Live-In Residence Coordinator

Reports to: Carlton Program Lead

Classification: Permanent, Live-in Position

Hours: Predetermined evening and weekend hours with rotational on-call coverage

Remuneration: This position offers a stipend and a furnished bachelor bedroom in a communal living space, including all utilities, Wi-fi and shared free parking.

Program Overview  

The YWCA Halifax will be operating a 16-room supported housing program for single, unaccompanied women and gender diverse people, aged 19+. The program will offer living accommodations in the form of a bachelor room, with shared common rooms, bathrooms and kitchen. Housing is anticipated to be long-term for the duration of the building’s leasing contract. As with all of the YWCA’s housing programs, the goal is to provide safe, secure and supported housing to women and gender diverse people who have experienced barriers to stable housing.  

Role of the Live-In Residence Coordinator

Responsible for direct service delivery to residents, this may include:

  • Case management
  • Navigation
  • Advocacy
  • Life skills programming
  • Eviction prevention
  • Conflict resolution
  • General support

Additional Duties:

  • Awareness of local community resources and agencies to assist in wrap around supports for residents in need.
  • Responsible to assist with intake and move in/out procedures in collaboration with the Housing and Intake Coordinator
  • Supporting residents by being the first point of contact for any building related matters
  • Conduct routine, non-licensed inspections of facilities; does an inspection once a week of all interior and exterior common areas, parking lot, outside grounds, and all entrances.
  • Ensure fire protection equipment is properly maintained and up to date.
  • Support the coordination of licensed inspections as required.
  • Daily monitoring of safety and risk management concerns.
  • Maintaining daily records and notes.
  • Maintaining operational standards.
  • Light cleaning to maintain the cleanliness of shared spaces.
  • Advance the mission and vision of the YWCA Halifax.
  • Must be available for emergency and On Call duties.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Must be able to assess all maintenance issues on site and assist in coordinating repairs with the Facilities Department.
  • Must have First Aid/CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training and ASSIT.
  • Subject to Criminal Records check with Vulnerable Sector search and a Child Abuse Registry search.
  • Must have experience working within confidentiality guidelines and always maintaining a high degree of professionalism.
  • Must be able to set and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Must be comfortable working in a women and children only building and from a women-centered perspective.
