Based in our bright and modern Head office in Bayer's Lake, Halifax, NS, this position is at the heart of cultivating a respectful and positive work environment across our organization.

As a valued contributor to our management team, you'll be trusted to develop and implement our HR, People and Cultural initiatives. This includes taking ownership of end-to-end recruitment activities, helping cultivate our company culture, implementing performance and professional growth initiatives, and ensuring sound HR administrative practices and overall compliance. You'll also have the opportunity to work closely with our Finance team, to help with onboarding, offboarding, and maintaining employee records, while also supporting benefit and compensation activities, as needed.

The ideal candidate will support the full scope of Human Resources responsibilities and partner with the organization on strategic initiatives. They will maintain and enhance the organization's human resources by planning, implementing, and evaluating human resources policies, programs, and practices.

Responsibilities and Duties

- Foster a positive and inclusive company culture by implementing initiatives that enhance employee engagement, professional and personal growth, and well-being.

- Act as a welcoming and trusted point of contact for Manager and Employee inquiries, concerns, and grievances, ensuring a consistently fair, respectful, and compliant approach.

- Lead and actively manage end-to-end recruitment activities, including creating and maintaining up-to-date job descriptions, as well as job posting, candidate sourcing, interviewing, selection, references, and onboarding.

- Work diligently to establish Fathom Fish and Seafood as a respected and welcoming employer-of-choice, through proactive engagement and recruitment, building genuine connections online and within the communities where we proudly operate.

- Work closely with the leadership team to formulate HR strategies aligned with the company's values and long-term vision and objectives.

- Develop, update, communicate and implement values-aligned HR policies, procedures, guidelines and training to ensure compliance and best practices.

- Develop and manage an engaging performance management process, including goal setting, performance conversations, succession planning and employee training and development plans.

- Administer and manage legally compliant employee and contractor agreements, maintain accurate and confidential company HR records, and generate reports as required.

- Collaborate closely with the finance department to help maintain up-to-date employee payroll and benefits information, support on-boarding and off-boarding, administer employee-focused perks and programs, and support annual compensation planning.

- Collaborating with the CEO, help implement and support appropriate occupational health and safety policies and programs to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and create a safe working environment for all employees.

- Proactively ensure the company follows employment laws, regulations, and industry standards.

- Engage in updating and maintaining HR-related platforms and HRIS while keeping up-to-date on technology trends to recommend improvements or new tools to streamline HR processes.

Qualifications

Education, Skills and Qualifications

- A minimum of 5 years of dedicated experience in a full-scope Human Resources role is required

- Post-secondary education (degree or certificate) in Human Resources or a related field preferred

- Positive, authentic, mindful, and self-aware with the ability to thrive in a team environment

- Highly accountable and able to make independent decisions, probe, analyze and problem-solve

- Engaging approach with excellent written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills

- Demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion, equity and accessibility

- Experience leading respectful and effective conflict resolutionStrong organizational skills, including effective prioritization and follow-up

- Proven ability to respond professionally and confidentially to sensitive matters or inquiries with tact and discretion

- Understanding of legal compliance relevant to employment, labour, and health & safety legislation

- Prior Food, Processing and/or Manufacturing industry experience is considered an asset

- Prior experience supporting employees across multiple locations would be considered an asset

- Prior exposure to payroll and benefits would be an asset

- Technically minded with a solid grasp of MS Office and HR tools, such as LinkedIn and HRIS

- Certification in HR (i.e.. CPHR) is not a requirement but would be considered an asset

- A valid driver’s license is required.
