Responsibilities: 1. Assesses, implements and evaluates the plan of care as determined by individual resident needs. 2. Gathers data for the nursing care plan by making relevant observations of physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of residents. 3. Assists in ensuring the plan of care is implemented and updated regularly according to the changing needs of the resident. 4. Reports changes in resident’s conditions to the Registered Nurse. 5. Prepares and administers medications and treatments and documents same. 6. Participates in Care Conferences and Medication Reviews. 7. Ensures that residents are given the opportunity to be involved in social and recreational activities. 8. Participates in the admission process providing support for the resident and family. 9. When in a charge position acts as the First Aid person for staff of all departments. 10. Is familiar with all emergency equipment and processes established by the Home and assumes a leadership role in emergency situations. 11. Assists with orientation of new staff. 12. Establishes and maintains a good rapport with nursing staff, other departments, volunteers, family members, visitors, physicians and other members of the community. 13. Participates in direct nursing or personal care as required or assists with same as time permits. 14. Assists with supervision and direction of Continuing Care Assistants. 15. Demonstrates an active interest in continuing education by participating in educational programs to keep up to date in current nursing practice. 16. Participates in various committees to provide nursing input. 17. Attends nursing staff meetings regularly. 18. Performs other duties as deemed necessary from time to time by the Nursing Services Manager or Registered Nurses.
· Current registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Nova Scotia · Graduate of an approved Pharmacology Course (if not included in basic curriculum) · Previous experience in Long Term Care Preferred · Additional education or experience in geriatric nursing, palliative care or Alzheimer & Related Dementia Care course considered an asset · Standard First Aid · CPR Certification
