Power Engineer/Refrigeration Operator

About the Position

Company Overview:

Scotia Garden Seafood is a harvester, producer and distributor of high-quality fish and seafood products. Our growing company is Yarmouth-based, with operations across Southwest Nova Scotia.

Position Summary

Refrigeration Operators are responsible for the operation and maintenance of ammonia refrigeration systems at our Yarmouth location. Applicants with Power Engineer certificates may be cross trained to assist in maintaining and operating boilers and plant equipment at our Short Beach location.

Position Info:

• Full-time, permanent position with competitive hourly rate
• Shift work required
• Occasional overtime may be required.

• Based at our production facility at 112 Water Street, Yarmouth, travel to facility at 105 Short Beach Road, Short Beach may be required.

Responsibilities:

• Perform maintenance and repairs on refrigeration equipment when the plant is not in production
• Control and monitor refrigeration plant equipment when plant is in production
• Other general maintenance duties on facilities and vessels
• Future responsibilities may grow into controlling, monitoring, maintaining, and repairing boilers

Work Environment

This position is performed within the manufacturing facility. When in the facility, the individual may be subject to loud noise and variable temperatures. They will be required to wear the appropriate CSA approved personal protective equipment and other garments as set out in the company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Power Engineer 3rd Class or higher, or Refrigeration Operator 2nd Class or higher
• Power Engineer 4th Class may be considered 
• Strong mechanical abilities an asset
• Self-motivated and a willingness to learn
• Participate in maintaining a positive, healthy, and safe work environment
