Steele Auto Group is seeking a Health & Safety Co-op to join our growing team!

As a Health & Safety Co-op with Steele Auto Group, you are responsible for assisting in developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety programs and policies, to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and to create a safe and healthy work environment. The Health & Safety Co-op will work closely with management and employees to promote and foster a positive culture of safety and provide expertise in identifying and mitigating workplace hazards.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with department manager to assist in conducting regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards
  • Work with department manager to develop strategies to mitigate and manage identified risks, providing recommendations for improved workplace safety
  • Stay informed about local, provincial, and federal health and safety regulations
  • Assist in ensuring organizational compliance with safety standards, collaborating with regulatory agencies, as necessary
  • In conjunction with the department manager: develop and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs, including educating employees on proper safety equipment use and adherence to procedures
  • Assist in conducting orientation sessions for new employees regarding safety protocols
  • Assist in developing and maintaining emergency response plans and procedures, conducting drills to test emergency plan effectiveness and ensuring availability of first aid supplies and equipment
  • Assist in reviewing, investigating, and analyzing accidents, incidents, and near misses: recommend and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence: and conduct regular safety inspections
  • Participate in internal and external safety audits and develop, review, and update health and safety policies and procedures
  • Work with management for continuous improvement of safety protocols and communicate safety-related information
  • Maintain accurate records, submit regular safety reports, and trace progress on corrective actions
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Working towards a professional certification in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Previous experience as a Health and Safety Co-op or similar role
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software
  • Ability to attend and conduct training and presentations, virtually and the opportunity for in-person
  • Potential local travel
