On-Site Bilingual (French/English) Seasonal Reservation Agent

Date Posted: March 6, 2024
Closing Date: June 1, 2024
Job Type: Summer/Term Employment (paid)
Job Category: Culinary & Tourism
Number of Positions: 26
Job Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia

About the Position

Before you continue reading this job description, you should know that there is a non-negotiable to be considered for this position – this is an in-office required job (located in Halifax) so, if you want a work-from-home job, or you resent the idea of travelling for work every day, then this is not the job for you. If working in the office is exciting to you, then keep on reading, and apply to get some travel & tourism experience as a reservation agent!

If you’re studying hospitality or tourism, this is the perfect summer job. You’ll be helping folks make their travel arrangements on our client’s network of Atlantic Canadian ferry boats.

If you’re the one your friends rely on to plan and organize trips – right down to itineraries and spreadsheets – and nothing quite brings you joy like a perfectly-executed agenda, we’re looking for you! To be happy in this role, you’ve got to be curious, love problem-solving, dealing with logistical challenges and have a proven skill for detail. If that’s not you, check out our other jobs. Quick note: we need people who can commit to the operating hours for the whole season, so if that’s not your goal, we encourage you to look for jobs that suit your availability needs.

Here’s The Deal:

  • This is a full-time seasonal position ending between End of August and Early September (There is the possibility of extension or to apply, and transfer to one of our year-round permanent positions if you’re interested, and a good match for the job).
  • We’re hiring multiple classes starting on March 27, April 24, May 23, and June 19 – be sure to tell us which date works best for you in the application process.
  • Hourly rate of pay is $16.50.
  • This job requires you to work in-office for duration of the contract.
  • Full-time, in-office training is provided and will be Monday to Friday from 10:00am to 6:00pm Atlantic time.
  • This is a job with regular evenings and weekends. Your schedule will be based on 40 hours per week. The program is open 7:00am to 10:00pm Monday to Sunday and fluctuates depending on business needs. To be considered, you need to be available for 8-hour shifts that fall within those times. Your weekly schedule will rotate through the hours of operations. If you’re looking for a Monday-Friday, 9-5 type job, this likely isn’t going to be a good match.
  • NOC code 64409

What We Offer:

  • Health, Dental, and Vision Benefits at 30 days
  • Group RSP with matching contribution option
  • Life Insurance
  • Free employee & family assistance program for legal, financial, and health support
  • Beautiful office space with loads of natural light, multiple break rooms, internet and TVs

What You'll Do:

  • Help people make, change, or cancel ferry reservations over the phone in English.
  • Create a positive connection with each customer you talk to. You’ll be an ambassador, not just for our client, but for the Maritime provinces in each interaction.
  • Take ownership of each inquiry you handle. One-touch resolution is the goal.
  • Follow risk and compliance processes and client policies.

What You'll Likely Have:

  • Well-developed customer service skills with the ability to quickly establish a positive connection and manage expectations.
  • Effective communication skills. You’ll need to be clear, empathetic, and helpful even if your customer is upset or frustrated.
  • The ability to navigate multiple software platforms and websites concurrently. You don’t need to be a tech genius. You do need to be comfortable working quickly and accurately in a fully digital environment.
  • A committed work ethic and reliability with a consistently positive attitude. You’re someone who wants the team to succeed.
  • Tourism experience or education is a valuable asset.
  • A love of the Maritimes is an asset! If you’re passionate about what this region has to offer, you’ll shine in this job.

Our intention is to be an actively anti-racist organization and our goal is to provide a work environment that creates a sense of belonging for all people. If that doesn’t align with who you are, we encourage you to look elsewhere for work.
