Responsibilities included but are not limited to: • Providing pedagogical leadership, modeling childcare best practice, and mentoring on centre policies and procedures. • Monitors the health and safety of children and staff; ensures that the group maintains standards set by the Nova Scotia Child Care Act to meet licensing requirements. • Responsible for the administration of medication and temperature taking. • Advises, consults, and assists staff in planning and implementing the daily program of activities while demonstrating appropriate behaviours and skills through modelling, mediating, observing, questioning, and demonstrating. • Provide a safe, flexible, inclusive, and stimulating environment which facilitates early learning. • Provides a welcoming and nurturing environment by demonstrating ongoing affection, acceptance and support of each child, staff, and family. • Attends to physical needs of children; instructs and assists in developing self-help skills such as washing, dressing, toileting, and eating, as necessary; feeds children and ensures special dietary requirements are met; ensures children are clean, dry, and dressed appropriately; oversees food for snacks. • Guides and mentors educators on inclusive practices, observation skills and child engagement strategies. • Remain current and knowledgeable on inclusive childcare practices, behavioural strategies, age-appropriate child development, and best practice. • Support educators gather or make cultural materials to support the educator in the classroom environment where appropriate. • Conduct and know which observational methods to recommend based on each scenario in the classroom. • Lead or train educators on observational methods when needed for data and information gathering. • Perform Functional Behavior assessments using data collected that is associated with challenging behaviour. • Utilizing and coordinating with outside professionals, current resources, assessments strategies and pedagogical leaders to develop and implement Routine Based Plans (RBP’s). • Collaborate with families and offer solid developmental and behavioural advice based on best practice and evidence-based research.
• Level 1, 2, or 3 ECE• All record checks clear and within the department expiration expectations• Food Handlers Certificate • Minimum of three years’ experience in a group childcare program, pre-primary and / or school age Programs • Strong organizational and administrative skills • Good interpersonal skills • Proven ability to work closely with other team members and maintain professional and confidential relationships with staff, families, and children. • Sensitivity and respect for individual and cultural differences. • High energy level and ability to meet the physical demands of the job. • Ability to provide pedagogical leadership with other educators and team members. • Ability to step into all classrooms with varying age groups as needed.
