Reporting to the Marketing Manager, the Marketing Advisor develops and delivers innovative and effective communications products and services in collaboration with an integrated team of colleagues within Corporate Communications. This position is assigned to support marketing efforts for the Environment & Climate Change office, with a particular focus on promoting public awareness, understanding and participation in HalifACT – the municipality’s climate action plan. As a trusted advisor, this position provides evidence-based advice to senior leaders, managers, and colleagues on how to communicate often complex information to external audiences through a variety of communications channels and tools (e.g. social media, web content, and marketing collateral for digital, print and broadcast). Applicants should have an understanding of climate change, with communications experience related to environmental science considered an asset.
As a member of the Corporate Communications team, the Marketing Advisor identifies and develops methods of relaying and disseminating public information. This role enables the coordination and delivery of effective messaging to target audiences and ensures communications activities support the vision and corporate direction of the municipality. The position provides professional marketing and communications services to business unit clients, in support of corporate projects and priorities. Collaboration with colleagues in Corporate Communications, internal clients and external partners is essential to the success of this role.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Professional Expertise:
Delivers innovative and effective marketing and communications products and services
Prepares or oversees reports, briefs, web content, and other products
Integrates social media into marketing and communications activities
Identifies best practices and explores innovation for the provision of public information
Conducts market research and evaluation on communications trends (e.g. public opinion) and analyses results
Successfully delivers assigned projects within budget, on schedule, and in accordance with the established scope of work
Client Relations:
Works with clients to develop, implement and evaluate integrated communications plans to help them achieve their objectives
Responds to client needs by providing effective and economical alternatives and solutions for their communications needs
Manages and monitors the progress of multiple projects and provides status reports to clients and other project stakeholders
Education and Experience:
University degree in Public Relations, Marketing or a related field
Five years of experience working in a large, complex communications or marketing environment
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Demonstrated knowledge of communications planning and research skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including document production and editing
Excellent customer relations skills
Sound knowledge of municipal government and/or previous experience working in a government setting would be considered an asset
Excellent computer skills in related software programs including Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access), and content management software; HTML knowledge would be considered an asset
Demonstrated ability in project management

HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm; 35 hours per week
SALARY: Level 7; $33.08 per hour as per the collective agreement between NSUPE Local 13 and Halifax Regional Municipality
