Searidge Foundation is seeking full-time and part-time addictions counsellors who will manage and work with a diverse population, playing a critical role in assisting patients to achieve recovery. We are open to considering both highly experienced and well qualified candidates, as well as individuals who are relatively new to the field. Who we are Searidge is a medical-psychological residential addiction treatment centre located in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. We are a not-for-profit foundation providing a high degree of care and comfort, but doing so at a reasonable cost. We structure ourselves to create a relaxed, warm, healing environment which offers evidence-based healing and treatment for addiction and concurrent mental health problems. Senior Addiction Counsellors’ Tasks at Searidge

  • Counselling individual residents
  • Working with other staff to develop and provide individual and group therapy sessions
  • leading therapeutic and psycho-educational groups;
  • developing individual assessments and treatment plans in order to provide personalized therapeutic sessions
  • assisting residents to establish and achieve individualized goals
  • maintaining established routines and procedures within the facility
  • preparing necessary documentation and written reports
  • participating in staff meetings as required.
  • provide oversight to and work in collaboration with junior counsellors assigned to shared clients  

Junior Addiction Counsellors' Tasks at Searidge

  • provide weekly counselling sessions focusing on social service support (housing, legal, financial etc.)
  • provide light psychological counselling (appropriate to qualification) and/or emotional support 
  • support residents in life at Searidge and managing service satisfaction 
  • leading psychoeducational and support groups 
  • maintaining established routines and procedures within the facility
  • preparing necessary documentation and written reports
  • participating in staff meetings as required
  • working collaboratively with senior counsellors assigned to shared clients  

 

Qualifications

Experience attributes and qualifications which we will consider:

  • Being an understanding and healing individual sympathetic to people in crisis.
  • Being passionate and creative about helping people. 
  • College diploma specific to addictions and mental health training or related studies.
  • College/University degree or degrees in psychology or social work.
  • Experience working as an addiction counsellor or doing related work.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Being teamwork oriented and conducive to working in collaboration with other staff.
  • Having an empathetic and nonjudgmental attitude.
