About the Position

Inspire youth to practice their second language speaking skills and share your culture while getting paid! That's Odyssey!

Embark on this nine-month (September 2023 - May 2024) Odyssey and you will:

  • Earn paid work experience in a classroom setting (approximately $27 per hour).
  • Discover whether the field of education is right for you.
  • Experience francophone culture.
  • Develop new skills and improve your French-speaking skills.

As a language assistant, you will play a key role in the lives of young people in your host community. Working under the direction of the classroom teacher, you will provide students with the opportunity to practice their second language skills and learn about other Canadian cultural identities.

Work Location:

  • Nova Scotia: If you are fluent in French, or proficient enough to work in French, you can be placed with a school in Nova Scotia. Your work language would be French (helping FSL or FFL students learn French).
  • New Brunswick or Québec: If your first language is English, you can relocate and be placed with a school in one of these provinces. Your work language would be English (helping Francophone students learn English).

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Have excellent language skills, both oral and written.
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada (those studying in Canada on a student visa are not eligible).
  • Have completed the following within the last 10 years: at least one full year of postsecondary studies, in either college or university.
