About the Position

The Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP) offers mobility, independence, and safety to people recovering from illness or surgery or wishing to spend their final days in their own homes. The HELP Technician cleans and maintains returned/used equipment.

 Key Responsibilities – carried out under the supervision of a staff technician

  •  Cleans and disinfects health equipment, according to standards (under supervision)
  • Maintains health equipment, according to standards (under supervision)
  • Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and carries out repairs, following manufacturer’s specifications
  • Documents repairs and maintains up-to-date equipment records in inventory management system
  • Instructs clients and caregivers in the proper use and maintenance of equipment
  • Provides support to staff technicians for equipment delivery, setup and removal at HELP depots or in client homes.
  • As required, will provide delivery of equipment to clients homes, care facilities or other CRC HELP depot locations as required

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Minimum qualifications for this position include completion of Grade 12 and some post-secondary education in a related field, and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in working with hand and basic power tools, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Abilities and Skills:

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 80lbs
  • Demonstrated mechanical ability and able to troubleshoot problems of a technical nature
  • Ability to work independently and to collaborate in a team environment
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Strong verbal communication and client relations skills
  • Full training is provided; however volunteers should be comfortable with using a computer, and have good written and conversational English. Other languages are considered an asset
  • Successful completion of CPR/First Aid taken within past 2 years (or willingness to complete within first six months) (applicable for equipment delivery/fleet vehicle drivers only)
  • A valid driver’s license and three-year drivers abstract, and all drivers must be 25 years+ (applicable for equipment delivery/fleet vehicle drivers only)
