Anchored Recruiting is delighted to partner with Island Eyecare to find a Technician/Optometrist's Assistant to be part of their compassionate and patient-focused team.

Our client, Island Eyecare, is a family-owned and operated optometry practice located in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Their practice and staff are dedicated to helping patients get the care, treatment, and answers they deserve for their vision health. They have an excellent opportunity for a detail-driven individual to join their growing and fast-paced team. This Technician/Optometrist's Assistant will be responsible for the preliminary testing of all patients before they see the optometrist and the accuracy of all patients' medical information.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a high degree of attention to detail and be comfortable learning and using new technology. They must be a compassionate person who can make patients feel comfortable while giving accurate eye health and medical information.

We are seeking a team player with impeccable interpersonal and customer service skills. The candidate must be comfortable touching the patient's head, face, and eyelids to ensure accuracy in preliminary testing, as well as standing for long periods. The successful candidate must be accountable, able to think on their feet and be an excellent problem solver.

As a Technician/Optometrist's Assistant for Island Eye Care, your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Greet patients in a friendly and welcoming manner while building rapport
  • Administer eye drops and record detailed information on patient history
  • Prepare examination rooms including sterilization and calibration of instruments and turning on all computers and setting them to current patient information
  • Provide direction and information as required to patients and collect required health information prior to the eye exam
  • Perform diagnostic testing and other pre-exam testing as required
  • Order and maintain pre-test supplies as needed
  • Update electronic records, file patient files and perform other routine clerical tasks
  • Maintain efficient patient flow through the pre-screen area and exam rooms ensuring patients and reception are informed of delays and direct patients to other departments when needed
  • Maintain patient records, third-party billing and financial records and database as assigned
  • Participate in personal and team development training and initiatives including staff meetings, continuing education and conferences
  • Build and maintain relationships with patients
  • Collaborate and build working relationships with the Island Eyecare team
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety protocols, as they apply to the practice

Our client is offering you:

  • Compensation for this position will range from $14-$16/hour based on experience
  • Cost-shared medical benefits with Island Eyecare
  • Working hours: 8:15 AM-5 PM, Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday and evening work
  • Permanent, Full-Time Position

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Post-Secondary education in Office Administration, Business Administration, or Medical Office Assistant Program, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in an office setting
  • Experience working in a medical office setting is considered an asset
  • Experience in an optical environment is considered an asset
  • CCOA certification is considered an asset but not required
