About the Position

Position Overview:

As an Early Childhood Education (ECE) Co-op Student, you will gain hands-on experience in a professional childcare setting, working with children in various developmental stages. Under the guidance of experienced educators, you will support classroom activities, assist with lesson planning, and contribute to a positive, nurturing environment that fosters growth and learning.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the implementation of developmentally appropriate activities and lesson plans for children aged 4 months to 12 years old.
  • Support the classroom educators in providing a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Help supervise and interact with children during free playtime, group activities, transitions etc.
  • Observe children's progress, providing input into their developmental milestones and needs.
  • Assist with the preparation of educational materials and classroom setups. Encourage positive behavior and assist children with social, emotional, and cognitive development.
  • Support individual children with special needs or developmental challenges, as directed.
  • Maintain clean and organized learning spaces, ensuring all materials are safe and accessible. Assist in snack and mealtimes, ensuring proper hygiene.
  • Follow all health, safety, and regulatory guidelines related to your job.  

Learning Outcomes:

Develop practical experience in classroom management and curriculum planning and delivery. Gain a deeper understanding of child development and how to implement child-led activities to promote children’s development. Enhance communication and teamwork skills in a professional educational setting. Learn about the regulatory and ethical standards in early childhood education. Build confidence in working directly with children and supporting their developmental needs.  

Additional Information:

This is a co-op position for students enrolled in an Early Childhood Education program. You will receive mentorship from experienced educators and have opportunities to learn about different aspects of early childhood education, from curriculum planning to child assessment. These positions can either be a support role which works above ratio, or a role that is counted in the mandatory staff-children ratio.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an Early Childhood Education program.
  • Knowledge of child development principles and best practices in early childhood education.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with children, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Patience, creativity, and a passion for working with young children.
  • First Aid and CPR-C certificate, clear Child Abuse check, and clear Vulnerable check are a must.
