About the Position

Are you an outgoing and enthusiastic team member and a drive to provide exceptional customer service? The Discovery Centre is looking for you to join its team as a part-time, casual Customer Service Representative.   

The Customer Service Representative is a valued member of our front desk team and represents the Discovery Centre in a positive, friendly and outgoing manner. The successful candidate must enjoy working with a variety of visitors and be comfortable delivering information clearly and positively. The Customer Service Representative must be professional and empathetic, and work well with large crowds.  The successful candidate should be ready to thrive in a dynamic team environment and deliver a positive first impression to visitors.  

Responsibilities include:

  • Welcoming and assisting guests in a professional and friendly manner
  • Communicating clearly with guests in-person, by phone, and e-mail
  • Providing strong Point of Sale support with admissions, tickets, and retail sales
  • Up-selling memberships, dome theatre tickets, and other add-ons to guests
  • Processing payments and completing daily cash opening & closing procedures
  • Maintaining the front desk and gift shop in an organized and clutter free manner
  • Staying current with all in Centre activities including, but not limited to, promotions, memberships, educational and public programs, exhibits, birthday parties, group visits and special events
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must be a Canadian Citizen and returning to school in the fall
  • Two years’ experience in retail, customer service, or sales role
  • Experience working with Point-of-Sale Systems in retail, admissions, front desk, or tourism environment
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to maintain composure and positive customer service while under pressure
  • Creative and responsive in problem solving situations Must work well in a team environment
  • Adaptable to changing conditions in the workplace
  • Computer skills – Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, E-mail, Web literate
  • Bilingual preferred (French/English)

Co-op Position Eligibility Criteria:

To be considered for this co-op position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Enrollment Status: Must be a current NSCC student in good academic standing and returning to your program for classes in the Fall. Graduating students are not eligible for co-op.

Academic Continuity: Must be returning to your current program for full-time study in the Fall Term.

International Students Permit Requirement: International students must possess a valid co-op work permit from the Government of Canada with no restrictions that would prevent them from engaging in the described co-op work.

Tuition Requirement: The co-op course is an elective first-year course in your program that occurs in the Spring/Summer semester. There is a tuition fee for this course.

Approval Requirement: All co-op experiences must be approved by your faculty or Academic Chair and sent to WorkExperience@nscc.ca in order to receive credit towards your NSCC credential. Please check in with your Faculty Advisor before accepting any job offer.
