About the Position

The Technical Specialist is responsible for a wide range of duties related to Eastlink’s Data and Wireless Mobility networks. The candidate is responsible for the monitoring and coordination efforts required to maintain the health of these networks. The role is directly responsible to Eastlink’s, internal support and management groups as well as dedicated data customers.  Leadership and communication skills that compliment strong technical troubleshooting skillsets are required. Common duties also include:  

Network monitoring  

MPLS / High Speed Internet (Core and Access layer) 

Wireless Mobility  

CATV plant 

Ticket based communications Front line data customer support 

 Change Management – Network maintenance coordination 

Support group coordination. (Tiered support and Field Operations)  

Simulcast broadcast duties Escalation procedures.  

 

 

Qualifications

  • Professional Communications
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.  
  • Two year accredited Data Networking certificate an asset
  • LAN/WAN Network support experience an asset 
  • CCNP or CCNA Cisco certification preferred Strong analytical trouble shooting skills 
  • Familiarity with routing & switching networks 
  • Strong organizational skills and able to multi-task 
  • Proficient in MS Word & Excel 
  • Ability to work in 7-24 shift environment 



    To be considered for this co-op position, applicants must meet the following criteria:  

    Enrollment Status: Must be a current NSCC student in good academic standing and returning to your program for classes in the Fall. Graduating students are not eligible for co-op.   

    Academic Continuity: Must be returning to your current program for full-time study in the Fall Term.

    International Students Permit Requirement: International students must possess a valid co-op work permit from the Government of Canada with no restrictions that would prevent them from engaging in the described co-op work.  

    Tuition Requirement: The co-op course is an elective first-year course in your program that occurs in the Spring/Summer semester. There is a tuition fee for this course.  

    Approval Requirement: All co-op experiences must be approved by your faculty or Academic Chair and sent to workexperience@nscc.ca in order to receive credit towards your NSCC credential. Please check in with your Faculty Advisor before accepting any job offer.
