NSCC Libraries provides accessible library services and resources to support NSCC students and employees.

NNELS

NNELS stands for the National Network for Equitable Library Service. NNELS provides published books in a variety of accessible formats in Canada for people with print disabilities.

Books can be downloaded in multiple formats (i.e. DAISY 2 and 3, MP3, e-text, EPUB 2 and 3, PDF, BRF, and audio).

The NNELS login via Nova Scotia Community College is in the process of changing. We recommend visiting your nearest Nova Scotia Public Library for NNELS access.

eBooks and Streaming Video

Our licenced eBook and Streaming Video platforms have accessibility features such as closed captions, interactive transcripts, user interface preferences, and compatibility with screenreaders. Learn about specific features:

Databases

NSCC Libraries subscribes to databases, searchable collections of information such as journal articles, newspapers, magazines, reports, eBooks, eAudiobooks, and streaming video. Many of these database platforms have accessibility features. 

EBSCO
All EBSCOhost databases provide a text to speech option for HTML Full Text articles. Learn how to use EBSCO's Text-to-Speech feature.

Gale
Gale Databases provide a Listen function for full-text articles. Full-text articles may also be downloaded as an audio file in MP3. To see these features, click the article title from the search results screen. Learn more about Gale’s accessibility features.
ProQuest
The ProQuest platform includes a variety of accessibility features including a built-in text to speech player that can read documents to you. Learn how to use ProQuest's speech-to-text player.

EPUB vs PDF
Articles in NSCC databases are available in EPUB (HTML) or PDF formats or both. Learn about the difference between EPUB and PDF.

Alternate Format Text
