At Akerley Campus, Meghan Fillmore, Library Technician, and Pam Eakin, Campus Librarian, offer workplace experience for students in the Achieve program who have indicated an interest in library work. During placements, students shadow Meghan for a few hours each day over a five week period and learn about the role of a Library Technician. They perform tasks such as checking books in and out, helping with print jobs, reshelving books, and assisting with displays.

For a special project, students are asked to research a topic of interest and create their own display complete with take-aways, books, and e-resources. Student Alyssa Swift created an Autism display, in support of Autism Awareness Day. She provided buttons for people to pick up. Alyssa is now enrolled in the Library and Information Technology (LIT) program. Akerley Campus Library also partners with the LIT program and NSCC Libraries' Central team to offer work experience opportunities for second year LIT students. Max Nodwell was an early Akerley Campus Library placement. Max went on to take the LIT program and is now employed as a Library Technician at Strait Area Campus.
