Where there’s a WIL there’s a way – New bursaries for students on unpaid work placements
CEWIL grant funding supports equity-deserving students on unpaid work placements
Through the new Where There’s a WIL There’s a Way program at NSCC, equity-deserving students at the College participating in mandatory work placements that are unpaid are eligible for financial aid bursaries thanks to funding from CEWIL Canada’s iHub program.
The bursaries offer relief to students facing financial difficulties while participating in full-time, unpaid, Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) programs at the College so they can focus on the hands-on learning experience.
“The goal of the iHUB funding is to remove barriers for students who want or need to participate in work-integrated learning,’ said Krista Steeves, Regional Associate Director - Atlantic and Central Region, CEWIL Canada iHUB. “We want to make sure all students have access to this type of support, to get the experience they need in their field and make valuable connections to the world of work and career.”
Throughout the 2022/23 and 2023/24 years, CEWIL is granting a total of $330,000 in support of the program, offering 200 bursaries valued at $1,500 each. Affording reliable transportation, cost of living funding, and additional work-related costs are some of the various ways the bursary has impacted students.
