Giving back to community

Over the last five years, the Dr. and Mrs. H.E. Christie Community Foundation has made an incredible impact on students at NSCC’s Cumberland Campus. Through their generous support, we are addressing student issues like food insecurity, cost of living, travel and transportation for work placements.

Food security

Their commitment to helping students where they need it most has created and sustained key initiatives at the Campus. These initiatives include the Cumberland Campus Breakfast Program, which serves over 400 student meals weekly, and the Wellness Pantry, that is providing students with grocery gift cards, farm fresh eggs, and other grocery essentials that keep students fed and focused.

Cost-of-living

In 2021-23, the Dr. and Mrs. H.E. Christie Cost of Living Bursaries helped Cumberland Campus students facing difficulties with rising costs and inflation. Their support also funded work placement travel bursaries to help students in need of assistance with gas and transportation during their work placements. In addition to the bursaries, they also funded gas gift cards for students and Urgent Aid.

And much more support

Over the last five years, the Dr. and Mrs. H.E. Christie Community Foundation has donated a total of $100K to support students at Cumberland Campus. After experiencing the incredible impact of their contribution and seeing the increasing need among students in the Cumberland County area, they committed to donating another $100k to Cumberland Campus over the next five years.

“Providing students with cost-of-living support and sufficient resources for a healthy diet are critical to their success. For some students, traditional sources of revenue are either nonexistent for these purposes or woefully inadequate for others,” said David H. Christie, Chair of The Dr. & Mrs. H. E. Christie Community Foundation. “Supporting these resources to address student needs is certainly within the Foundation's goals to fund initiatives that support our community.”

NSCC Foundation is proud to have donors like the Dr. and Mrs. H.E. Christie Community Foundation whose commitment to community and incredible generosity inspire others to support NSCC students. They have, and continue to make, a lasting impact that shows Cumberland students that their education and career goals are valued. Thank you, Dr. and Mrs. H.E. Christie Community Foundation, for your dedication to supporting NSCC students!
