Students who identify as Mi’kmaq or Indigenous are offered medicine pouches to wear at convocation, celebrating their academic journey and cultural identity.

Mi'kmaw and Indigenous awards, scholarships and bursaries

Through the generosity of our donors and partners, NSCC offers more than five million dollars in student awards, scholarships and bursaries each year to help with cost of living expenses, tuition, books and College fees.

Recognizing the barriers that equity-deserving groups can face when pursuing post-secondary education, NSCC offers awards specifically for, or giving preference to, Mi’kmaw and Indigenous students.

NSCC has two main awards cycles in the spring and fall. Search “Mi’kmaw/Indigenous” in the Student Awards Portal to explore available scholarships, awards, bursaries and other financial supports. More than $100,000 is currently available for the fall 2026 cycle.

Student impact

Dawson, Natural Resources Environmental Technology student and recipient of the 2026 Pomerleau Entrance Award for Mi’kmaw and Indigenous Students

This award will truly have a tremendous impact on my education at NSCC. I am beyond grateful for this award that helps an Indigenous student on their journey to further their education. My goal for the future is to help and teach others the indigenous ways of living on the land and to help people understand more about mother nature
