Spark Creativity

This spring, NSCC hosted Spark Creativity, its inaugural event where the night was spent highlighting and celebrating student and alumni talent from the College’s Creative Industries programming. The event was met with soaring success, bringing in nearly 600 attendees including NSCC students, alumni, staff, donors, industry partners and employers from across the province.

“We were so pleased with the creative sector’s support for our inaugural Spark Creativity event. It was a great end to the school year by celebrating the amazing work of our students and alumni while connecting with our industry partners,” said Craig Mercer, Manager, NSCC School of Business and Creative Industries. “We can’t wait to see what next year brings as we work to make Spark Creativity bigger and better for 2024.”

Celebrating Creativity

The event was a celebration and showcase of the creative talents within the NSCC community. With music, visual displays and multidisciplinary art exhibits from students and alumni across various Creative Industries programs, the event gave students and alumni the opportunity to network in their industries and build community with fellow creatives. Lastly, with musical performances by alumni bands Neon Dreams and Good Dear Good, the night was filled with creative energy and appreciation for the sector.

“As a band that’s comprised entirely of NSCC alumni, being able to perform at Spark Creativity was awesome,” said Tim Hatcher, Good Dear Good, NSCC Ivany Campus Music Arts ‘18. “We were able to meet current students, chat with some of our former teachers, and showcase what we’ve been doing since graduation. It was a blast. A great event for a great cause.”

The Spark Creativity Student Bursary Fund

Net proceeds from the event supported the Spark Creativity Student Bursary Fund, a fund designed to create bursaries for students from communities under-represented in the creative sector. Between ticket sales and donor support – the fund has reached $15,000, which will support equity-seeking students as they pursue Creative Industries programming at the College. Thank you for making a difference.

It’s not too late to show your support. The Spark Creativity Student Bursary Fund is still open for donations. Be a part of diversifying representation within Nova Scotia’s creative economy by donating today.
