NSCC SPRINT Fund: Support for student and faculty research

A young woman wearing an NSCC Applied Research sweatshirt standing in the college lobby smiling.

NSCC SPRINT Fund — Supporting Practical Research and Innovation through NSCC Talent — provides 2 applied research opportunities:

  • SPRINT Microgrants for projects with industry or community partners.
  • SPRINT Scholars Awards for in-depth initiatives that advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Nova Scotia.
Both streams may count as student capstone projects or work terms with Academic Chair approval.

Thanks to funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Mobilize grant, SPRINT helps students and faculty turn ideas into meaningful outcomes by addressing real-world challenges through applied research.

Director of Applied Research Alain Joseph explains the vision behind this program: "The SPRINT Fund is about more than just funding innovative projects, it’s about fostering a culture of collaboration and creativity across the College. We want to ensure that everyone interested in research has the opportunity to get involved.

The new SPRINT Scholars Award aligns with our commitment to the United Nations SDGs. By signing the SDG Accord, NSCC has pledged to embed these global goals into research, learning and community initiatives—turning ideas into action that benefits Nova Scotia and beyond."
