SEATAC team

Dr. Mo Shamma leads SEATAC, driving applied research and innovation to advance ocean technologies through strategic leadership and multidisciplinary collaboration. He brings more than 12 years of experience with ocean-related projects, mechanical and manufacturing processes, industrial engineering and materials science with a focus on polymers, composites and nanostructured materials. His expertise supports the development of practical solutions that meet the evolving needs of the ocean sector.

Neil Laamanen, P.Eng., is SEATAC's Project Coordinator. He leads client projects that require mechanical design, advanced manufacturing and on-water testing support and expertise. He has more than 20 years of experience in engineering and related trades roles in addition to his time working in College research and training.

Laura Holleran is a Research Associate at SEATAC. She supports projects requiring marine field operations, technology deployments and environmental data collection, captaining the research vessel. She holds a Master of Science in Applied Oceanography and a Small Vessel Operator Proficiency certification.


Nathan Higgins is a Research Associate for SEATAC supporting client design-and-build projects involving mechanical systems and 3D parametric modelling. He holds a CAD Technician – Mechanical diploma from NSCC.
