Monthly eNews: 2021 Year in Review
2021 Year in Review
It’s been another unusual and challenging year. In 2021, we continued to face uncertainty and change with moments of normalcy that are more treasured than ever. We’ve all had to adapt to a “new normal,” although what that looks like is different for everyone. For us, the result has been a year spent mostly online, juggling home, work and life, but deeply invested in adapting our alumni offerings to be of most value to you, our alumni.
You inspire us daily with the contributions you make in your communities, and to your families. We invite you to look back on some of the highlights from your alumni community in 2021. We hope you will also join us in imagining the future and what this community means to you.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2021 Alumni Engagement Survey last spring. Your responses continue to guide our programs and offerings specifically around career and entrepreneurial supports. One initiative that was expanded and launched with your input in mind was the Career Supports microsite, including our student and graduate employment site.
This past summer, we launched our new alumni website with more of the resources and information you wanted most. This new site is a hub for everything alumni-related, including perks and benefits, alumni programs and stories, and ways for you to stay connected to your alumni community.
Over 4300 graduates were honoured and welcomed into the NSCC alumni community this fall. The Class of 2021 Convocation was held on October 23rd via a province-wide virtual ceremony. As part of the ceremony, Dr. Robert Strang was awarded an NSCC Honorary Diploma in recognition of his support to all Nova Scotians during the pandemic.
On October 25th, NSCC officially kicked off its 25th Anniversary celebrations. You can still watch the celebration kickoff video, the first instalment in the NSCC 25-Minute Learning Series, or participate in our social media contest. Join us in looking back at NSCC’s history and the impact the College has made in Nova Scotia and thinking forward to NSCC’s future.
On November 30th, also known as Giving Tuesday, our alumni stepped up and donated to the NSCC 25th Anniversary Fund. Together, $7,150 was raised that day in support of Rapid Response funds for NSCC students! Thank you to everyone who helped to support student success. Missed Giving Tuesday? It’s not too late to be involved! Read more and donate to the 25th Anniversary Fund.
Once again, we are amazed at the talent that exists within our alumni community. In December, we profiled 12 incredible makers and entrepreneurs for our annual ShopNSCC list and 12 Days of Giveaways. If you or someone you know should be featured in next year’s list, email: .
Every year, the Report to the Community shows the impact the College has on Nova Scotia and how our students, grads and employees are making a difference in their communities. Read the 2021 stories and see what alumni like Vanity Thompson have been accomplishing.
P.S. Share your thoughts on what you’d like to see more of, or new opportunities you would like to see included, in your alumni program in 2022. Let us know by emailing:
